Thirty Five Buddhas

Sutra of the Three Heaps also known as the sutra of the confession of downfalls (Tib tung shak). This is a sutra used in the confession and purification of transgressions of vows, especially downfalls of the bodhisattva vow. It features the thirty-five buddhas of confession. The 'three heaps' refer to in the title are 1) homage, 2) confession, and 3) rejoicing or dedication.

The Three Heaps Sutra is a purification practice widely used among Tibetan Buddhists.  It was one of the main practices Je Tsongkapa relied upon as he entered his famous three year retreat.  It contains an invaluable method for cleansing bad deeds and karmic stains, confessing moral transgressions and dedicating the roots of virtue to enlightenment.  This is an essential practice for all serious aspirants of the Buddhist path.
